CCUS from emitter to storage – where are we and what do we need (Kirsti Midttømme, NORCE)

Next NFES meeting will be held at Solastranden Gård, Wednesday, 2nd of April 2025, at 11:00

The technical presentation “Geothermal Energy in the Nordics: Drilling and Sustainable Utilization” will be given by Kirsti Midttømme, from NORCE.

Abstract:

According to Dan Jørgensen, EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, geothermal energy plays a crucial role in the decarbonisation of the EU energy system. The Nordic strategy of harnessing geothermal energy through heat pumps has been highly effective, with approximately 30 TWh extracted from the bedrock in Sweden, Finland, and Norway. However, we have yet to develop deep geothermal technology for the Nordic market and fully leverage the expertise available in the offshore industry.
