Life Beyond Drilling: Why Now Is the Time for Subsurface Teams to Embrace Cased Hole Analysis (Ross Brackenridge, Geoactive Ltd)

Presenter

Abstract

Has there historically been a divide between open hole analysis and cased hole services within the geoscience community? Though not intentional, most would agree there has been due to a few historical factors so, what drove that separation? and why is it now beginning to disappear?

In this presentation, Ross Brackenridge, an experienced cased hole data specialist, reflects on the evolution of the industry and the shifting role of geoscientists within a maturing oil and gas landscape. As the focus moves from exploration and discovery toward production optimisation, asset integrity, and late-life field management, the traditional boundaries between open hole and cased hole disciplines are becoming increasingly blurred and the benefits of subsurface teams taking internal ownership of this data are clear to see. Building on this context, the presentation will provide a very brief beginner-friendly introduction to cased hole services, with a focus on key applications such as well integrity and production optimisation, ideal for those wanting to get more involved in these areas

As the Oil & Gas industry matures there has never been better time to get involved in Cased Hole data analysis and there are now very few barriers to prevent Geoscientists making this transition but plenty of benefits in doing so.

Biography

Ross currently works for Geoactive Ltd where he is the Cased Hole Domain Expert for the Interactive Petrophysics (IP) software package. He is currently based in, and also originates from Aberdeen, Scotland.
Ross has over 28 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, having studied Computer Science prior to starting his career. During many years with a major service company, his technical expertise focused on mature assets, specialising in cased hole data analysis, including casing and cement evaluation, production logging, and pulsed-neutron reservoir analysis. There, Ross also held roles across geoscience management, sales, and business development. Since joining Geoactive 13 years ago, Ross has led the development of an industry-leading suite of applications for mature wells inside the IP platform. He continues to serve as technical champion for these applications and coordinates the day to day activities of the development team.
