Energy Transition Outlook and the role of Norwegian Oil & Gas (Geir Egil Eie, DNV)

Next NFES meeting will be held at Solastranden Gård, Wednesday, 4th of June 2025, at 11:00. The technical presentation “Energy Transition Outlook and the role of Norwegian Oil & Gas” will be given by Geir Egil Eie from DNV.

Abstract

Norwegian energy exports remain central to Europe’s energy security and green transition. However, Norway face a significant decline in energy exports with associated export revenues, i.e. Oil & Gas – strong in the short term but declining in the long term. Towards 2050 gas maintains production, while oil declines by a third. An increased build-up of offshore wind – electricity and hydrogen exports cannot make up for lost oil and gas revenue. The energy transition leads to a more efficient and sustainable energy system but the speed is too low. DNV’s ‘most likely’ energy transition forecast indicating global warming of 2.2°C by 2100.
