Abstract
This study presents a comprehensive statistical analysis of all 73,000 horizontal wells drilled in Texas, offering insights into their evolution over time.
Key trends examined include changes in total measured depth (MD) and lateral length, shifts in landing practices and dog leg severity (DLS) by year, and the identification of the longest, deepest, and most complex wells drilled.
Additionally, we construct a profile of the “average” Texas well across different years and draw comparisons with Norwegian wells to highlight regional drilling differences.
These findings provide valuable context for understanding technological advancements and operational practices in horizontal well development.
